Scottish Raiders just rushed for 1400+yds and scored 140 points in a single game. Ok, against a bot defense, but this is very impressive.

I think the team that has redefined the game this season has been Seattle Seahawks. Their rushing attack in the later part of this season has been virtually unstoppable.

Hmmm, that is impressive. Cursory check of salaries does not show an extremely high commitment to the run game. There is one OL who is paid 100k, the rest, and the RBs seem to be in the 20k range. What i observed is a low energy backup QB, and an injured starting QB. I wonder if the switch to the running game was more about the situation, and the opponent.

What is your take? Why is that running game so impressive? What do they do different from the competition, and the factors i outlined above?

It seems to go back to a defeat they took at home to MLMOTPLGC on the first game of the season. MLMOTPLGC's QB was injured and they played the rushing game and won easily. Seattle then tried a balanced attack in game 3, and graduated more and more towards rushing as that aspect was more successful for them than the passing game. Seattle's recent QB injury doesn't even affect them, except that the QB sometimes runs with the ball.

When the new engine was announced, the admins did mention that a Fullback and Halfback combination would be an important factor, and Seattle use the FB/C and HB/C to great effect. They also employ two Tight Ends, and ensure their offensive line is world class across the board, including the Centre and Guard, which turns their running game into a battering ram through the heart of the opposition defence.

This is a setup that will be very hard to stop in upcoming seasons.

Yeah, the FBc, HBc was expected. On the other hand i am not clear on how the TE helps in the running game. I heard mixed opinions, majority telling that TE does not contribute to the running game. Can you elaborate that please? Thanks in advance!

I don't think there's any way of knowing really that the Tight Ends contribute to running, aside from playing exactly the same opponent with the same tactics etc.

The way I see it, if you're going to have a mixed attack of rushing and passing, tight ends can only be useful because of their effectiveness on the passing game.

Possibly. But maybe Seattle is simply attacking through center and taking advantage of the fact that most of his opponents have undertrained/underdeveloped players in the NT/DT positions (which was customary with the old engine). If your HB is easily getting to the 2nd level more often than not, you are going to inflict some damage for sure.

The running game is certainly more effective than before, but it remains to be seen what happens when you have to factor a stout DLine into the equation. Especially considering that when you run the ball you are not going to hit any of those 70-80 yds homeruns that the Passing game is providing (you'd have to break 3 tackles in lieu of 2, which is highly unlikely at the top levels).

Not sure what the TEs do while running the ball. If you are running the ball, however, I would advise going through the center as written above. This will maximize your chances, while also making the TEs impactless (at least on paper, since nobody knows how the engine actually works in that regard).

You have also to factor in defensive orders. We don't know which orders were set against Seattle, maybe his opponents still focused to stop the pass every down out of habit.

At the moment I think the engine is still too limited to make effective a balanced offence. It is impossible to pass to one side of the field and rush through the middle, and we can't tune rush/pass percentage by yards to go.

Well, there is a way to do so: Let the QB decide.
